You know the feeling of scattered, splattered, smothered hashbrowns... that's your brain on ADHD. When you have ADHD, focusing or concentrating on tasks that seem boring or difficult can be a real challenge. You might find yourself jumping from task to task without ever completing a project. It's common to misplace things frequently, and being late can become a regular occurrence. You may fidget and struggle to sit still, often interrupting others or blurting things out without thinking. People might tell you that your emotions are 'too much,' or even label you as lazy. Seeking ADHD counseling can help you manage these challenges, and if anxiety is also a concern, anxiety therapy may provide additional support. For those in relationships affected by these issues, couples therapy could be beneficial as well.

Living with ADHD can sometimes feel exhausting, as if you are drowning even when you're trying your hardest. Many individuals with ADHD carry years of frustration, self-criticism, and feelings of being misunderstood, often questioning why tasks that seem easy for others are so challenging. The good news is that ADHD is not a character flaw, and through ADHD counseling, I will help you understand how your brain works, identify your strengths, and develop practical tools tailored to your life. Together, we can explore strategies for managing overwhelm, improving focus, strengthening relationships, and building greater self-compassion. In addition, if anxiety is a concern for you, we can incorporate anxiety therapy into our sessions. My goal is to empower you to feel more confident and capable, ultimately creating a life that works for you—not against you. Couples therapy can be beneficial when ADHD is also impacting your relationship.

Understanding ADHD in Women

ADHD is often described like an iceberg, only a small part of the symptoms and struggles are visible to everyone. ADHD in women can sometimes be even more complicated to recognize as the symptoms look a bit differently than they do in men.

  • Women may exhibit more internal symptoms of restlessness- talking incessantly, busy/ racing thoughts rather than the external hyperactivity and fidgeting/ constant movement in men.
  • Women may display impulsivity more as impulsive spending/ shopping, oversharing, changing plans without notice.
  • Women tend to show inattentiveness more as daydreaming, zoning out, having a hard time focusing on boring tasks, or hyper focusing on fun stuff.
  • Additional symptoms include:  intense rejection sensitivity, mood swings,  strong emotions,  anxiety, perfectionism, decision/ task paralysis, messy personal spaces, and feeling overwhelmed all the time.
